Upon graduating from the University of Colorado School of Music, I promptly moved to San Francisco and soon found employment at an advertising agency, eventually becoming a producer. Founded Hank Smith Music in 1992 and wrote music for advertising for ten years, before heading to Los Angeles, where I currently reside.
I wrote and produced the theme song for the very popular Nickelodeon television series "SpongeBob SquarePants". While working as the main composer for Disney channel series "Higglytown Heroes", I was kept busy creating more than 100 originals songs for the show. As a versatile musician I arranged "The Hero Song", 150 different ways. "The Hero Song" is a composition I wrote that is sung by the different hero of every episode.
I have been busily writing music for many pilots. Most notably, a Cartoon Network show titled "Diggs Tailwagger", which is the creation of Derek Drymon, the Creative Director on SpongeBob SquarePants.
I recently composed tracks for two Saban Entertainment pilots and a Nick Jr. show called "Ni-Hao-Kai-Lan". Other projects include music for several internet based webisodes and scoring a national series of web videos aimed at stopping bullying in Junior High Schools. I have toured nationally and been a session player on numerous recordings.
My approach to any project is to provide varied compositions for each request by my clients. I work extremely well under pressure and with minimal direction have a keen sense in what the producers are looking for from the music. I bring humor and a positive attitude to every project.
With two children under the age of 15 years my pulse is always on the latest music trends Relaxation for me is laying on the beach in Isla Mujeres with a rum drink in one hand and crossword puzzle in the other. My other place of solitude and creativity is my studio. Living in Silver Lake has been fun with a great Reservoir for walking and having a local Trader Joes for cheap wine.
